Food Trends for 2030 — Let them eat?

The article “Food trends in 2030: intelligent ovens, grow your own and game” offers up an interesting prediction about what we will be doing with our food in 2030. I have to admit I agree with a few of the predictions. This is not to say you should not use a caterer but with so many folks on limited budgets there is not one week I don’t have someone drop by to chat about cooking for a crowd.

Another prediction talks about eating more game meats. I think this might be true if there is some way to properly re-introduce these products to consumers and show them how to prepare it. I draw the line however on more folks taking up arms and hunting for their dinner; but you never know.

Recently however while browsing through a shopping marketplace in downtown Atlanta I ran across an interior design store that featured cooking classes and I had to chuckle. What a wonderful idea, teach cooking and perhaps that will motivate homeowners to redecorate their kitchens and start cooking and  entertaining more at home. What a concept? I have to admit when I get home the last thing I want to do is leave and on any given day you can find me in the kitchen experimenting or practicing new cooking techniques.

One trend I do see coming true is our baking skills. I do think Americans will be baking more and taking control of what goes into their baked good; particularly since grains are so high on our food chain. There is just something sensuous about baking from scratch and taking control of what goes in these products.

We continue to have so little control on what is dumped in our waterways intentionally or not, what is fed to our chickens, cows, sheet and pigs, it appears being able to buy organic wheat to bake a simple loaf of bread may be one of the few things we can do for ourselves; and if reality were to take the front row we may not even be able to do that!
